There are two keys to becoming a successful online marketer. The first is getting a reasonable number of people to visit your website(s). The second is choosing your affiliate programs well.
The first question you have to address is demographics. Who are your visitors? Their Gender? Age? Interests? Needs? Consumer habits?
Do a lot of thinking about who your visitors are, what their interests are, and what they might want to buy. The products or services you choose must be a good match for your audience or it doesn't matter how many folks visit your website. And, don't marry your first conclusions...if the product you choose doesn't sell well, consider trying others.
By the way, be aware that not all affiliate programs pay you only for sales. Some will compensate you very well for producing sales leads.
Because all sorts of companies want to build their mailing lists, you can even earn a commission when someone signs up for a coupon, a free restaurant meal , or other freebies.
While you want to choose programs with high commissions, you might settle for a lower commission if you are offered a percentage of the earnings of everyone you refer to the program. Some referral programs are two or three tiers deep.
Remember, you should choose programs which:
1. offer you good online tracking so you can see how you're doing.
2. banners and advertising copy which will generate results.
3. treat you well by responding to questions and paying you promptly.
4. offer your visitors a good product or service at a fair price.
Lastly, I suggest you do what the best marketer I ever knew advised me to do. Track and continually analyze everything possible.
