Product and service advertisements have now become an important medium for The Internet.
Radio and TV advertisements have also ventured into placing ads on the Internet and almost every company that can afford print uses that too.
With millions of websites out there being visited by millions of computer users, what can be done to make sure that your ad will be seen by your target market and that your users will follow these leads?
Let me give you a tip or two or maybe more.
1.Find out what websites are frequented by your target customers and place links there.
Of course first you need to define who will be your target customers.
Placing an ad on sites that they usually visit increases the possibility that your ad will grab their attention and will be followed.
We also want to consider the website's search engine placement, traffic, external linking and the ads placed on it.
External linking will determine if there are other sites that link to this site.
This means that people can get to the site where you place your ad, even if they are browsing a different site.
How many of your competitors have ads on this site, we dont want to just be lumped in with the rest.
2. Many authority sites charge to place ads, however, there are plenty of sites that will place a link to your site, product or service in exchange of having their link being displayed on your site.
Newsletter operators use this same method of trading with their mailing list members regularly.
Having helpful links placed on your site and having sites link to your pages will give you a huge boost search engine ranking.
It's like telling the search engines that your site's content is just as important as other sites that have links to your web pages.
3. Pay-per-click (PPC) is a great method of Internet marketing.
You will only need to pay for the ad if the link is clicked. If you prefer this method of advertisement, make sure that you keep track and set limits on daily expenses.
There are also services and software that help you determine effective keywords and monitor the PPC results.
Personally, I prefer Keyword Elite and SEO Elite software and just do my own search engine optimization.
4.A quick word about domains is to choose your domain name wisely.
It is still some debate if domain names matter when it comes to search engine placement.
Whether domain names are or are not, having product related domain names help your visitors remember your domain, and they can get back to your site much easier even without the links.
5. Please place useful and entertaining content on your sites.
While keyword density is important in search engine placement, having useless information or annoying repetition of keywords will not increase your customer's confidence in your site. It may even get your site removed from search engines.
So make sure that keywords are used strategically but write for you readers or visitors and not the search engines.
6. When thinking of keywords, think like your target customers. What do you think they will be searching for in order to get to your site?
Also, be specific with your choice of keywords or key phrases.
Submitting specific keywords that describe your product and services perfectly will get your sites ranked higher and faster.
7. Always track your ads and check how much you have spent on placing links on frequently visited sites and on PPC.
There are services like google adwords that allow you to monitor PPC transactions and how many of these end in sales.
You always need to consider if the ads that you have placed on these websites are getting to your target consumers and if these ads are profitable or not.
One final tip on marketing products and services, sell the benefits instead of merely discussing the product specifications and attributes.
Product specifications do not mean much to the majority of customers and are more interested in how your product or service will solve some problem or provide a solution for them.
Getting to the top of the search engines is not difficult even with the millions of websites that exist.
Strategic advertising and linking, together with useful content will get you there because believe it or not you will be one of the few that now have a clue.
